Lichfield District Council Councillor’s Community Fund

The Councillor Local Community Grant Fund was set up in 2021 to enable councillors to award funding to grassroots organisations in their ward. Under the fund each councillor has £300 per annum to award to local projects and activities to make a positive impact in their area. Awards can be made from a minimum of £50 to a maximum of £300 with an option for applications to be made to more than one councillor in a ward or across wards, up to a maximum award of £900.

The funding is aimed at:

  • Projects that provide local solutions to local needs
  • One-off events that benefit the local community and support community resilience
  • Current projects/activities that need a small amount of support to continue or grow
  • Capital items (equipment, materials etc.)
  • New projects and activities that need some funding to get going
  • Projects that stimulate new community activity, such as setting up new local community events and club

The Councillor Community Grant will be available to:

  • Voluntary and community groups
  • Charities
  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Non – constituted groups (would need to supply a mission statement)

Funding requests

  • The minimum you can apply for is £50 from each councillor, the maximum you can apply for is £300 from each councillor.
  • Applicants can apply to more than one councillor in a ward or to councillors in other wards if the project supports communities in more than one ward. However, the maximum award per project will be £900.
  • If the total project cost is more than you are applying for, please provide details of other sources of income, including grants, fundraising and membership subs etc, that will be used to cover the full project cost.

Examples of eligible projects include:

  • General running costs (excluding salaries but project specific sessional worker costs can be funded).
  • Provision of equipment e.g., IT equipment, craft materials, furniture.
  • Funding towards costs of community events/activities
  • Funding towards specific projects – e.g., school holiday youth project, playscheme, coffee morning, gardening group projects.

All Councillor Community Grant applications must be approved by the relevant ward councillor(s) prior to submitting the application for consideration.

  1. Organisations should first contact their local Councillor to discuss their project BEFORE submitting an application. Councillors should use this opportunity to ask questions and decide whether they would consider an application from the organisation. If you are not sure which councillor to approach, please click here
  2. Once the councillor (s) are happy with the project and wish to fund it, they will be sent an application link (online form)

Round Dates

The programme will launch 1st May 2024 and will close for applications on 30th November 2024.

Applications will be processed on arrival, however, once a Councillor has fully distributed their budgeted amount, the application window for that Ward will close.

In the first instance, please speak to your councillor first, before submitting an application
