Getting Started with Legacy Fundraising

A legacy gift will often be the largest single donation a supporter will ever make. Legacies provide around £1.9 billion income for charities every year and the legacy market is experiencing strong growth. All charities no matter how large or small should consider how they can build a legacy income stream into their charity’s funding mix. Understanding why people make such gifts, and how to handle what is often a simultaneously sensitive and daunting topic, will help you tap into this source of funds and boost your charity’s income.

At a time when 45% of charities don’t have a digital strategy, despite more than 70% believing that strengthening their digital skills would help their organisation to grow its network and deliver a more effective strategy*, it is vital that charities are given the support they need to enhance their digital capabilities or they risk being left behind. However, this can often prove difficult for the majority of charities and local community groups when resources and budgets are stretched to their limits.
