Minibuses seek lazy days out with community groups this Spring and Summer

As the days get longer and warmer, voluntary and community groups based in and around the Staffordshire Moorlands are being encouraged to make the most of Support Staffordshire’s minibuses for their trips out this Spring and Summer.

Sally Bentley, Voluntary and Community Transport Officer for Support Staffordshire says “Our minibuses are a fantastic local resource. Each can carry 12-16 people and two of them are equipped to take a wheelchair. We want to encourage local voluntary and community groups to enjoy them.”

Community Buddies - Castle Ward, Tamworth

NEW 12 month pilot  - Community Buddy scheme to support local residents that live in the Castle Ward in Tamworth. 

Support Staffordshire will be recruiting and training a team of volunteers to become community buddies to offer a friendly ear to local residents, signposting and supporting accessibility to voluntary, community and health services.

The purpose is to connect community members with community buddies to enable them to attend local groups and to encourage and assist people facing barriers to access support within their local community.

A Burntwood sailing charity is aiming to double the number of young people it gets on the water during 2018

Youth Sailing @ Chasewater (YS@C), part of The Chase Sailing Club, will be scrubbing down their boats and boards in April before they start welcoming new members aboard to discover more about sailing and windsurfing.

The charity is part of RYA OnBoard – a national scheme aiming to make it cheaper for youngsters to participate.

One of the members, Daniel O’Connor, said his confidence and social skills had improved since taking part in sessions in May last year.

Group hoping to help tackle isolation in Lichfield and Burntwood through cycling project

A local group is hoping to help isolated members of the community to get out and experience – and remember -the joy of cycling.

Lichfield Re:cycle, which already reconditions used bikes, provides free long term loan bikes to those in need and organises community cycling events, has been touring Lichfield and Burntwood with a trishaw. Community groups have been invited to take a ride in the rickshaw style vehicle, to see whether there is any appetite for a ride service to be offered locally.

Walking and cycling groups suitable for beginners in Tamworth Castle Grounds

It’s long been proclaimed that physical exercise is good for our well being. Although joining a gym might work for some, it’s not for everybody, but medical practitioners tell us that walking or cycling for just 150 minutes a week can help to keep us healthy.

If you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle & would like to join a walking or cycling groups, come to the Community Together Hub in the Castle Grounds. Bikes are available for hire.

Brereton Million's Outdoor Movie NIghts is back for another year! Taking place in Ravenhill Park, moviegoers are invited to bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy Jurassic World in this unique outdoor setting.

  • Tickets MUST be shown on entry
  • Under 16's MUST be accompanied by an adult
  • All children MUST be accompanied at all times

Catering Facilities: Food vendors will be on site although moviegoers are more than welcome to bring their own food.
