Comic Relief Community Fund - Capacity Building Grant

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis

Grants of up to £1,000 are available for small local grassroots organisations in England to become stronger and more robust and better able to deliver projects that bring about lasting change.

The Community Fund is provided by Comic Relief and administered for organisations in England by community charity, Groundwork, which specialises in transforming communities and the local environment for the better.

Persimmon’s Charitable Foundation Funds: Building Futures and Community Champions

Building Futures

Persimmon’s Charitable Foundation has this week committed to relaunching its Building Futures scheme for 2020. As part of its sponsorship of Team GB, Persimmon will donate more than £1 million to support children in sport, health and education.  

Building Futures will offer three major prizes up to £100k to fund projects which support children.  Alongside the top prizes there are smaller individual prizes of £1,000 each to give away during April and May 2020.

Developing Staffordshire's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Strategy

Thank you to everyone who completed the SEND online feedback form.

We had almost 400 people submit a response. This feedback has been really insightful and has helped us to understand what is working well, what could be better, and if you had a magic wand, what you would do to improve SEND support in Staffordshire.

Food insecurity exposed by COVID-19

Use of UK food banks almost doubled during lockdown, with a significant spike in demand from people with children. Recognising that the situation is likely to worsen, the cross-party group of MPs call on Government to urgently appoint a ‘Minister for Food Security’.

The new Minister would work across Government departments to collect robust data and deliver sustainable change. The report also urges the Government to consult on whether a ‘right to food’ should be put in legislation.

Just Family CIC - Update

As from Monday 3rd August Just Family CIC will be offering a weekly group session every Monday morning from 9.30am - 11.30am at Torus Wellbeing Clinic,  Elgin Chambers 24, Cemetery Rd, Stoke-On-Trent ST4 2DL with full social distance measures in place - Babies welcome.

Just us: Is a Perinatal Support Group (Mums mental well-being) from bumps to 4 years, Peer support, Tea/Coffee/Snacks, guest speakers as well as pre/postnatal advocacy service.

Do you have experience of using health and social care services during the coronavirus pandemic?

Healthwatch Stoke-on-Trent and Healthwatch Staffordshire, the local independent champions for health and social care have worked with Together We’re Better including Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council on a collaborative piece of work to devise a coronavirus impact survey, which asks members of the public about their experiences of health and social care services during the coronavirus pandemic. The survey largely focuses on coronavirus experiences, long-term health conditions, mental health and digital engagements. 

Together We're Better Stakeholder Update 6 July 2020

Face masks and coverings have been in the news again this week, with more evidence emerging about their effectiveness in helping to stop the spread of the virus. In the UK, around 23% of the public use face coverings when out and about, which is far lower than other countries. Even in the USA, where there is divided opinion regarding face masks, the number of people wearing them is at about 63%.
