Founder of Burntwood domestic abuse charity awarded MBE in New Year’s Honours

Kathy Coe received the honour for her work founding and running the Pathway Project, which helps victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

She created a 24-hour helpline after surviving domestic violence herself. Originally set up in a spare bedroom, it was manned by a group of volunteers.

Fundraising followed which led to the creation of a refuge for victims opening in 1994.

The charity’s services were extended into Lichfield and Tamworth in 2003. It now provides refuge for up to 20 women and their families at any one time.
