Next week, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet will agree its Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) which outlines its expected financial position for the coming years. It’s essentially a budget, though in recent years it has become synonymous with a list of savings that need to be made. The years ahead are no different and immediately the county council is planning on the basis of needing to make around £35 million of savings in each of the next few years.

Let's take on dementia together.

Dementia adviser volunteers play a key role in supporting dementia advisers to provide an effective information, support, and signposting service. As a volunteer you would be making telephone calls to people with dementia and carers who have been referred into the dementia adviser service, and there may also be opportunity to meet people to support them in accessing services.

Together We're Better Feedback Ambassador workshop session

Together We’re Better is the partnership transforming health and social care for the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. It is made up of NHS and local government organisations, alongside the two local Healthwatch and voluntary and community organisations, including Support Staffordshire.

As part of this work, Together We’re Better (TWB) runs a Feedback Ambassador programme, which seeks to utilise the skills and experience of local volunteers.

Making a difference in your local community

Come and join our inspiring Community Aiders Team helping with patients in their homes. A listening ear, a lending hand to their worries or concerns, or maybe a hand with some shopping or gardening, or perhaps a hand massage to help with relaxation. Full training will be given and a volunteer will be matched with a specific patient. Please call to hear more about these roles.

Walk Leaders wanted in Tamworth

Do you like walking? Would you like to lead a weekly walk? Community Together CIC is looking for volunteers to lead their weekly walks.

Walks go from Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital on a Tuesday 10am until 11am and 1pm until 2pm.  They also run from the Community Hub in the Castle Grounds on a Thursday at 11.30am until 12.30pm.

They are offering FREE Walk Leader training.  In return they ask for you to commit to leading 12 walks over 12 months, only one a month!

NHS England’s ‘celebrating involvement in healthcare’ community grants scheme is open for applications for the fourth year.

Grants of up to £2500 are available to voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to showcase how they have been involving patients, service-users and the public in improving health services.

Last few days of People Power Fund and Proceeds of Crime Act Fund

Commissioner’s People Power Fund – for grants between £100 and £3,000

Great ideas for community safety solutions come from local people – which is why Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis is inviting groups in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to bid for money from the Commissioner’s People Power Fund.

The fund empowers local groups to find solutions to community safety problems through smaller grants of between £100 and £3,000.

New Mental Health Hub in Cannock Chase

There are early stage developments of a Mental Health Hub in Cannock Chase.

The idea is being driven by Lynn Evans from Friends of Hednesford Park.  So far there have been three meetings to share ideas and develop a network of voluntary sector and statutory services to a) reduce stigma of mental health, and b) to encourage services to work together to understand what support is available locally for individuals.
