Community Business Trade Up - Applications are now open!

The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) will support 100 community businesses through the Community Business Trade Up Programme, in partnership with Power to Change.

They're looking for people leading the organisations that put their local area at the very heart of what they do: the restaurants, community centres, bakeries, farms, sports clubs and pubs that are run by and for local people (to mention just a few!).

Charity stereotyping by those who should know better

This month has seen the launch of the new fundraising preference service headed up by Lord Grade. The service is in large part a reaction to the terrible circumstances surrounding the death of Olive Cooke who was found to have been bombarded by begging letters from dozens of big charities in the months before she took her own life. There was no causal link but it left a very bad taste in the mouths of many willing charity donors and government seized on it to bash the sector over the head with another blunt instrument.

Banking Staff Support Local Recycling raising over £2,500

Volunteer Recycling Charity

Star Foundation gave a chance for a team of seven Natwest bankers to volunteer their time for a day and help with community recycling.

The team benefited from a short orientation session to start with and finished the day with a feedback session to develop business from a ‘fresh eyes’ perspective. Their help on the day raised over £1265, which Natwest then kindly doubled to over £2500.

ICVs check on the way police officers carry out their duties with regard to detainees

ICVs make unannounced visits to the custody suites across Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent

ICVs observe, comment and report on the welfare and conditions of people in custody

South West Peak - Evaluation Tender Open

Support Staffordshire thanks its Volunteers

Volunteers’ Week happens at the beginning of June each year and it’s a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the work of volunteers who give their time to make a difference in our community. On the 14th June Support Staffordshire held a volunteer thank you cream tea on the Churnet Valley Railway’s steam train. The event was kindly funded by Leek United Building Society’s customer foreign currency collection.  Over 30 of Support Staffordshire’s 90 strong Staffordshire Moorlands volunteer team attended the event.
