The Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Adult Safeguarding website

It is my privilege as Independent Chair to write the introduction to the new Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Adult Safeguarding Partnership website.

It is often said that ‘Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility’. The website is designed to turn those words into reality for anyone seeking information on what to do if they suspect abuse as well as practitioners who are seeking information on good practice in responding to safeguarding concerns.

Weston Charity Awards Opens for 2017 Applications

Applications for The Weston Charity Awards 2017 are now open. The awards have been created to celebrate and support great charities working in the fields of Youth, Welfare and Community.

The Awards were initially launched in the North East of England but were extended throughout the whole of the North of England and are now extended to include the Midlands.

Fixed term for 9 months initially subject to further funding

This is a new project that has grown out of the concern for isolated people in the wider community.

You will set up, develop and coordinate the supporting you Newcastle Under Lyme Gardening Scheme by undertaking practical work, identifying and supporting potential volunteers and recruiting clients.  Experience of working with vulnerable groups in a community setting and developing services is essential.

The Churnet Valley Guide is a project (2016) within the Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership (CVLLP), an HLF funded programme; Support Staffordshire is one of the partners.

The Churnet Valley Guide is developing into a community and visitor resource and you have an opportunity to contribute to building this site and to discover, share and enjoy everything that's on offer in the Churnet Valley.

Success for Sporting Communities CIC

We are delighted to share the sucess of one of our members at a recent awards ceremony.

At the Children and Young  People Now Awards Sporting Communities CIC received recognition in two catergoies.

They were winners in the Play Awards category for their Replace Crime with PlayTime initiative and Danielle Pointon was recognised in the Chidrens Achievement Award for her volunteering.

Funding for defibrillators in England

British Heart Foundation, Defibulators

The British Heart Foundation has been awarded a further £1m from the Department of Health to make public access defibrillators and CPR training more widely available in communities across England.  

Applications opened on Friday 11 November and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Comic Relief Local Communities Programme

There are still many communities in the UK that suffer from economic and social deprivation and the current economic climate may make this situation worse. This programme aims to empower local people enabling them to create lasting change in their communities.  Projects  should be run  by people directly affected by the issues they are dealing with and priority will be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community.
