YMCA Burton launches Sleepout 2019!
Thu 8 Aug 2019
Local charity, YMCA Burton have set the date for their 11th annual Sleepout this week – Friday 8th November 2019.
Last year’s Sleepout saw 240 people take part in their Sleepout which was held over two venues, Pirelli Stadium – where people chose to sleep in the concourses or outside the ground and St Modwens church in the graveyard.
The youngest person to ever take part in Sleepout was 3 years old and the oldest was 83 so age is no barrier to signing up for this event!
The Sleep Out is designed to raise funds to help the town’s homeless whilst raising awareness on the demands on homelessness services and provisions that appear to be increasing. Previous Sleep Outs helped to fund the YMCA’s Reconnect centre in James Street and provides supported housing, training and support for homeless people in Burton. The YMCA also runs family mediation, counselling, outreach, winter night shelter, food bank and furniture redistribution within the East Staffordshire area.
These services are partially funded by partner organisations but also rely on donations.
Paul Laffey, Chief Executive said; “It’s amazing to think that this is our 11th Annual Sleepout in Burton. This has now proven to be our largest fundraising event and homelessness awareness event of the year. I am amazed that we have had many local people asking us since Christmas when is Sleepout 2019 taking place. Now the date has been launched we are encouraging as many people as possible to sign up and register their place. I’ve already booked my place to do our extreme sleepout, which is always a night to remember.”
