Village Halls Week 2020

Thu 9 Jan 2020

Village Halls Week 2020 launches in January 2020 and we want to take the opportunity to bring it to your attention and explain the importance of the celebration.

Village Halls Week, taking place from 20th January 2020 to 26th January 2020, aims to celebrate England’s Village Halls. This includes their volunteers, their history, and the vital services they provide for rural communities. This year Support Staffordshire, as one of 38 members in the country of the ACRE network want to help to make it the biggest celebration yet.

Last year, in January 2019, Village Halls Week celebrations gained significant media attention with halls across the country being featured on 16 BBC channels and it is the perfect opportunity to showcase village halls in Staffordshire.

As part of raising awareness for Village Halls Week we have been working with several halls who are participating by holding activities to mark the event:

  • Mavesyn and Ridware Village Hall are hosting an open day in advance of village halls week, on 12th January to invite people to see the new flooring installation which has been fitted after a flood.  There will be around 16 village hall user groups showcasing their activities.
  • Tixall and Ingestre Village Hall are launching a coffee morning on 20th January, and this is hoped to be a regular activity.
  • Fradswell Community Hub will bring extra celebration into their regular luncheon club on Wednesday 23rd January.  They are promoting a book written about the an eight year project to re-build a village hall called ‘Building a Community: how one village achieved its dream)
  • 25th January has been marked as National Open Day.  Two halls are showcasing to their local community what they offer
    • Alstonefield Village Hall

    • Codsall Village Hall are giving out free pizza!

By featuring these halls, we hope it will inspire you to showcase your halls during Village Halls Week, and there’s still time to take some simple steps to raise awareness by using the social media banner and tag #villagehallsweek, sending a letter to your constituent MP or writing a press release.

If you need help with marketing resources, ACRE have developed a marketing pack to help you, and we will more than happily provide this upon request.

In addition, if you have events planned for the week and would like Support Staffordshire to come and cover them on our social media and website, then don’t hesitate to get in contact and we’ll try to arrange something.

Finally to bring halls together to share, network and learn collaboratively Support Staffordshire are organising a Village Hall Network meeting to launch and celebrate Village Halls week on 20th January from 13:30 at Blythe Bridge Village Hall.  With a theme of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats regularly faced in running a village hall.
