Victims Champion recognised with Lifetime Achievement Award

Thu 15 Aug 2019

This week we were able to catch up with Sonia Evans from Victim Support who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Stafford and District Volunteer Star Awards organised by Support Staffordshire.  Sonia wasn’t able to receive her award on the night so we arranged for Lin Carter, Director of LSC Nursing and Care Services the main event sponsor and award sponsor, to present the award to Sonia at the LSC offices in Marston Road, Stafford.

Sonia Evans has been with Victim Support, a national charity that support victims of crime and antisocial behaviour (ASB), for more than 13 years. She was nominated by her line manager Heleen Roebuck-Witte.

Heleen Roebuck-Witte said “When we found out she had won the award we were not really surprised and were so pleased for her”.

Sonia started in 2006 as a volunteer at the Newcastle-under-Lyme office, manned the walk-in point for victims in a local library and supported victims of mainly sexual and domestic abuse, both face to face and via telephone. In 2015 she joined the ASB team.

Sonia always demonstrates empathy, dedication, compassion and a very caring nature, receiving very positive feedback from service users. Despite her busy private life she really cares for our clients and Victim Support.

Victim Support contract manager Mel Hancox, special services manager Kathy Bryers and Heleen Roebuck-Witte, ASB victims champion accompanied Sonia to the office of LSC Nursing and Care Services to share this special moment with her.
