Two men, aged 41 and 75, and a woman, aged 40, were arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending, following an operation in Tamworth on 16 March.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team, working in partnership with Staffordshire County Council and Staffordshire Police, executed warrants at two addresses, seizing documentation and cash.

The suspects were taken into custody and questioned by officers from the Team.

Tony Quigley, Head of the Illegal Money Lending Team said “We will continue to work to combat loan sharks. They can cause untold misery to the most disadvantaged in our communities. We would urge anyone with information about loan sharking or victims of loan sharks to contact the team on 0300 555 2222.”

Nationally, Illegal Money Lending Teams have secured more than 336 prosecutions for illegal money lending and related activity, leading to nearly 217 years’ worth of custodial sentences. They have written off over £63 million worth of illegal debt and helped over 27,000 people.
