Success at Next Steps Event

On Thursday March 9th Newcastle Under Lyme College hosted a NEXT STEPS event to help students plan the next steps towards their future career.
Julie Hughes (Social Action Officer – Newcastle) Sandra Grosvenor (Social Action Officer Stafford) and Matthew Howard ( Staffordshire County Council – Community Support Officer Libraries) attended this event in their role as Social Action Officers for Support Staffordhsire promoting and encouraging volunteering as an excellent way of improving skills and experience.
All in all this was a very enjoyable day with representatives from 50 local employers offering apprenticeships and 12 universities attending. Over 1,100 students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC), Stafford College and local high schools attended. The universities were joined by over 30 local employers including the NHS, Army Reserves MOD, Mitten Clarke, Siemens, Peak Activity Services and Wedgewood who all attended to provide practical sector based career advice and guidance.
Julie, Sandra and Matthew spoke to 86 young people with 24 expressing an interest in volunteering. Julie said "We're all looking forward to signing up and engaging with new enthusiastic volunteers.It was a really vibrant, busy event with lots of interest generated".
