Service User and Carer Reference Forum (SURF)

Thu 12 Oct 2017

S.U.R.F. stands for Service User and Carer Reference Forum not a type of washing powder!  It is a forum for people who use the mental health services of South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

There are six locality S.U.R.F. groups, one held in Lichfield the others in Stafford, Burton, Tamworth, Cannock and the Seisdon area. The Lichfield meeting takes place bi-monthly at Lichfield Community Fire Station starting at 2pm (tea, coffee and biscuits provided free!). Travelling expenses can be paid to service users and carers who attend.  The meeting usually lasts around two hours and is represented by a cross section of health professionals, service users and carers. This is an opportunity for people to air their comments, concerns and personal experiences of mental health services.  Feedback from the groups is reported to senior managers in the Trust for action.

The topics discussed recently have been promotion and publicity of S.U.R.F. the new community mental health pathways which replace the locality teams, and updated information packs including a Wellness Plan booklet which service users can write in themselves and keep for their own records.

For a leaflet or further information please contact Helen Klich of the Involvement and Experience Team on 01543 441473 or email helen.klich@sssft.nhs.uk.

The next meeting is on 28th November 2017 for the Lichfield S.U.R.F. Meetings in the new year are scheduled for January 23rd, March 20th and May 22nd, same time and venue
