sarac Helpline and services

4-10th February 2019, was Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week. 

Below summarises the support offered by sarac (Sexual Abuse Rape Advice Service), who are a charity based in Burton on Trent who offer free, independent and one-to-one emotional support, information and advice.  All of their services can be found on their website www.sarac.org.uk.

They can help anyone over the age of 11 who may have been affected in any way, either directly or indirectly, at any time by sexual abuse, rape or sexual exploitation with our free services.

They provide free weekly emotional support calls via our helpline to victims and survivors of abuse as well as family and friends who may need a listening ear.

Between April 2017 and March 2018 they received 1300 calls and made over 4300 on the helpline.

Clients find the helpline an empowering step on their road to healing with confidential regular calls that ensure they feel heard and believed. They also benefit from advice on coping strategies and it provides a compassionate holding space for clients waiting for face to face support.

Via the helpline clients can also access

  • Face to face services
  • ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) services to people who would like support and advice about the criminal justice system, whether they are accessing it or not, as well as support with attendance at court.

They accept self referrals or referrals from schools, agencies and other professionals.

Their service is volunteer led and therefore they are not a 24/7 service however if they are not available they will always call back within 48 hours so please leave a message.
