Letter From Roger Savage, Secretary, Adbaston Community Concert Society.
It is with great sadness that I write to you today on behalf of the Chairman and Committee to let you know that our President, Audrey Newsome, died earlier this week at the age of 91.
It was Audrey, with her friend Jenny Muddimer, who had the idea of running concerts in Adbaston church for the local community.
They were so popular that eventually the Adbaston Community Concert Society was formed with a small committee which met initially at Audrey’s house, with Audrey always playing a key part. With her wide circle of friends, the audiences grew quickly and her personal contacts with Manchester Camerata and, latterly, the Keyboard Trust, were largely responsible for achieving the standards we are now known for.
In recent years, with failing health, she was very glad that her friends Jenny and Guy Morton brought her to listen to the concerts which remained a highlight of her life. When this became too much for her, she still followed events with interest.
Audrey was a good friend to all the committee and followed our progress to become a registered charity with enthusiasm. I am sure we will plan a suitable occasion to celebrate her life once the current difficulties are over.
We send our condolences to Audrey’s sister-in-law Ann, her nephews and great-nephews.
With very best wishes from me and all the committee,
Adbaston Community Concert Society.
