Newcastle Carnival

Thu 13 Feb 2020

Following on from the success of last year’s parade, Newcastle Carnival Group is keen to contact local groups, charities, schools and organisations to tell them that they are going to be bringing Newcastle Carnival to our proud and ancient town again this year.

They want to build on last year’s success and make the parade as impressive, colourful and enjoyable as possible. The carnival will be taking place on Monday 25th May 2020. Local charities, groups and organisations are invited to join in the festivities. They are asking groups to take an old umbrella and decorate it using reclaimed, recycled and repurposed items to reflect their group and the activities they do. Umbrellas are being used because they were very well received last year and also because this years’ event will be taking place on the same weekend as the Jazz and Blues Festival and there is a strong association between jazz and umbrellas.

The Carnival Group would also welcome any group that may wish to do activities like dancing, playing instruments, stilt walking etc. in the parade to contact them.  It is hoped to have a number of umbrellas to give away for groups to decorate and there will be decorating workshops.

To express an interest complete the attached form.

Any groups that show interest will be invited to attend a meeting on Monday 30th March when more information about arrangements for the carnival itself will be available.
