New Mental Health Hub in Cannock Chase

Mon 10 Sep 2018

There are early stage developments of a Mental Health Hub in Cannock Chase.

The idea is being driven by Lynn Evans from Friends of Hednesford Park.  So far there have been three meetings to share ideas and develop a network of voluntary sector and statutory services to a) reduce stigma of mental health, and b) to encourage services to work together to understand what support is available locally for individuals.

There is a Cannock Chase Mental Health Hub Facebook Page where people can find out more information.

The group are currently working towards sharing what is happening locally on World Mental Health Day – Wednesday 10th October.

'The day provides an opportunity "for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide". This year's theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is young people and mental health in a changing world.’

Cannock Chase Mental Health Hub partners are providing activities on this date to raise awareness of the support that is out there for our community and reduce the stigma around mental health.

Activities planned so far:

Hednesford Park: Mindful led walk 'Step in to the moment', with free pink elephant balloon models in the Parlour.  At lunch time, we are delivering a themed gardening session in our 'Potter in the Park'.  Lynn, will be dressed in a pink elephant costume giving out pink elephant biscuits and there will be a pink elephant craft session.

Hednesford Library: Making poppies craft activities and free pink elephant crafts

Hazelslade School: Making 'Feeling sticks' in a Tiny Tinders forest school session

A volunteer will be writing to all of the local schools asking them to participate offering ideas of pink elephant crafts to raise awareness and she is also offering to deliver a school assembly to schools that week.

Brighter Futures: will provide leaflets and key rings to organisations attending the next meeting on 1st October to promote the 'Brighter Futures' mental health directory information at our individual activities for World Mental Health day.

If you are organising something for World Mental Health Day please let us know.

Next Mental Health Hub meeting date (available to anyone): Monday 1st October, 10am - 12noon Hednesford Park Pavilion Community Room
