Work completed on £1.6million refurbishment of Burntwood Leisure Centre

The ribbon has been cut after a £1.6million project to refurbish facilities at Burntwood Leisure Centre.

Freedom Leisure, which manages the site, carried out work to make the building more energy efficient, as well as improved studio and gym facilities.

Cllr Bob Awty, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, joined directors to formally open the new-look leisure centre.

Staffordshire Buddies is a well-established and successful sexual health charity concerned with prevention of HIV and STIs and the improvement of health and welfare in individuals and the public.

Funded for 3 years, the Blinks Project aims to increase links with the community for the benefit of the charity’s development and service users. The Engagement Worker will lead the process of developing partnerships and supporting service users to build networks in the communities of which they are a part.

Voluntary Transport for the Disabled

A Community Service in Difficulty

Two years ago last December a vital Community Transport Service run by Lichfield District Council ceased due to national and local government austerity cuts. The council could not afford to run the service for the community or maintain its fleet of vehicles to the required standard for passenger transport. They are now at a stage where another local transport charity is in danger of closing down not due to any financial concerns at present but because of a lack of interest from the local community.

Burton Bowel Cancer Support Group Launches

Burton Bowel Cancer Support Group has recently formed and is offering sessions on the second Monday of the month at Burton Library, 6:30 - 8:30pm.

The group's mission is to help to come to terms with the impact of the diagnosis and treatment, give quality information and signpost, whilst giving the opportunity to meet new people who are, or have been, in a similar situation.

£100,000 of National Lottery funding up for grabs to celebrate community spirit in the West Midlands

YMCA Burton launches Easter Campaign

YMCA Burton have launched their annual Easter fundraising campaign this week in a bid to raise £6,000 to refurbish the kitchen at their main homeless site Reconnect in the town centre.

This will enable them to increase the provision available, provide better facilities for clients and hopefully offer more opportunities for clients & volunteers to be involved in.
