Transport Volunteers still here to help ensure local residents get to medical appointments

Despite a threatened funding cut, Biddulph Voluntary Transport Scheme is as busy as ever, and is encouraging local residents to get in touch with them if they are struggling to get to hospital appointments, doctors, dentists and chiropodists or even to do some shopping or attend a social engagement.

Plans for community space and apartments to replace former pub in Lichfield

The Former Anchor Pub

New plans have been unveiled to convert an empty Lichfield pub into flats and a community facility.

The Anchor at Streethay has been boarded up since January 2015.

There have been plans to demolish the building and create new residential accommodation previously, but the new proposals will see parts of the existing building retained.

Developers want to create a “flexible community facility” on the ground floor and demolish existing single-storey extensions to create four new apartments.

Founder of Burntwood domestic abuse charity awarded MBE in New Year’s Honours

Pathway project

Kathy Coe received the honour for her work founding and running the Pathway Project, which helps victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

She created a 24-hour helpline after surviving domestic violence herself. Originally set up in a spare bedroom, it was manned by a group of volunteers.

Fundraising followed which led to the creation of a refuge for victims opening in 1994.

The charity’s services were extended into Lichfield and Tamworth in 2003. It now provides refuge for up to 20 women and their families at any one time.

Chasewater Friends

A new Burntwood-based charity has been set up to promote Chasewater.

The Chasewater Friends group will launch at the Oak Room at the Innovation Centre at 11am on 19th January.

The event will feature a presentation by head ranger Rob Davies and the group has been supported by county councillors Helen Fisher and Sue Woodward.

People can become a friend of Chasewater for £2 a year of £5 for three years. Organisations can also sign up for £10 a year.

Lichfield Citizens Advice to relocate while office gets makeover treatment

Lichfield Citizen's Advice Office

The Lichfield branch of Citizens Advice is closed for four months while refurbishment work is carried out.

The offices in Levetts Field will see an altered layout on the ground floor when the charity reopens in April.

Feeling the Lichfield Love at Christmas

Good causes across the district are set to benefit after We Love Lichfield donated thousands of pounds in grants at its special Christmas presentation. 

The charity, which supports voluntary groups making a difference in our communities, invited recipients, civic leaders and guests to the event in Lichfield’s George Hotel on Friday 14 December 2018.

Uttoxeter Heath Community Centre - Grand Reopening Celebration

Following a sizeable refurbishment project, the Uttoxeter Heath Community Centre will be holding a celebratory Family Fun Day on Sunday 27th January 2019, 10am to 2pm, to which all are welcome.

This is an opportunity to see the new facilites at the Community Centre, and to meet the local groups that support it.

Activities will include:

Live Entertainment, Chatty Cafe, Raffle and Tombola, Face Painting and an Eco Pop Up Shop

Social Enterprise Start-Up programme & Grant.

Expressions of interest are being sought from Social Entrepreneurs who are starting or recently started a Social Enterprise in the Midlands. The programme, sponsored by Lloyds Bank is free to attend and comes with a grant of £1000.

The programme comprises 14 study sessions over a 12 month period from October 2019 to October 2020. The application window runs from February 2019 through to mid-April 2019 but interested parties can obtain an application pack and sign up for reminders by visiting
