Burntwood Work Club

The Burntwood Work Club has now finished. Support Staffordshire are however supporting some employability training which leads to an OCR Award. This training started on Tuesday 7th July however will continue for three more sessions (21 July, and 4 and 18 August). Community Resource Centre

East Staffordshire has launched a new service - the Community Resource Centre. The Centre will be offering advice and guidance for individuals in areas such as volunteering, employment and training, and support for community groups on topics such as governance, funding, project planning and delivery. Our newly elected MP Andrew Griffiths was on-hand to cut the ribbon at the official opening on Friday 5th June.

Tea Party for East Staffordshire's Volunteers

East Staffordshire celebrated Volunteers’ Week 2015 by hosting a Tea Party on Wednesday 3rd June at the Volunteer Centre for all volunteers across the area regardless of which organisation they are working with. The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of East Staffordshire Cllr. David Leese and Liz Leese. Cream teas, cakes and all the trimmings were kindly donated by our local ASDA store. Prizes for our free raffle were kindly supplied by ASDA and other local businesses.

Carers Week 2015

It's Carers Week (8-14 June) - an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. This year the campaign is focusing on Building Carer Friendly Communities - communities which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own. There are hundreds of events taking place this week, see the Carers Week website for events near you.

Building Better Opportunities Fund Update

Following an extensive series of workshops and consultation briefings across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, organisations interested in taking a lead role in developing a consortium to bid for grant funding from the Building Better Opportunities Fund were invited to participate in a capacity building programme in order that we could help develop the necessary understanding of the role of lead organisations, of partners and of the ways in which partners might work together to develop consortia.

Dementia Friendly Communities

We are now continuing our support to organisations and businesses to achieve acknowledgement of their Dementia Friendly Communities. Areas have included Hednesford, Norton Canes and parts of Cannock. During May, Hednesford successfully became registered as a Dementia Friendly Community. A dementia-Friendly community is a city, town or village where people with dementia are understood, respected, supported and confident they can contribute to community life.

South West Peak

Roadshows have now been set up by Support Staffordshire to give local communities more information about the South West Peak Landscape Partnership and to offer a chance to get involved.
