Call for Evidence for the Statutory Guidance Review

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport has opened a consultation to inform the upcoming Statutory Guidance Review for Local Authorities on providing youth services 

The government is revising the guidance relating to Section 507B of the Education and Inspections Act, which sets government expectations of (upper tier) local authorities when they are securing services and activities for young people, and want evidence from young people, local authorities, youth sector organisations and other interested parties before the closing date of 23:59 on 30th November 2019.

Another successful Staffordshire village hall network meeting

Village hall representatives from around Staffordshire came to Colton Village Hall last Thursday (3rd October) to network with each other - sharing experiences and ideas over coffee and cake - and also to find out more about village hall insurance issues. Gavin Mitchell of Allied Westminster gave a very informative presentation including the pitfalls on under-insuring with a couple of case studies.

Support Staffordshire's premises in Leek - Bank House in St Edward Street - accommodates a range of voluntary organisations and activities, including the Staffordshire Moorlands Talking Newspaper for the Blind and Borderland Voices. There is currently space available in the form of offices and desk space for rent and meeting rooms to hire for activities.

Launch of interim autism service for children and young people in south Staffordshire

An interim autism service supporting children, young people and their families in south Staffordshire has been launched by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust was recently confirmed by the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) serving south Staffordshire as the provisional provider of autism services in the area.

As interim host provider, MPFT’s Children and Young People’s Autism Service will support families until the formal procurement process is completed by the CCGs and a new contract awarded for autism services in the south of the county.

NEW Employment Support Offer

Talent Match Staffordshire now provides employment support to both young people and adults, aged 16 – 30, who are out of work, and live in the Lichfield or Cannock Chase Districts.

Funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), “learners” can access up to 10 weeks of 1-2-1 support and supplementary group sessions to move closer to the workplace.  

1-2-1 support is tailored to meet individual needs and support each “Learner” to achieve their goals.

Rotary Community Library Brereton Joins Places of Welcome.

Brereton Community Library near Rugeley is very pleased to announce that we have joined the national Places of Welcome network. Every Thursday morning between 9.00 and 12.00 anyone at all is welcome to come along for a chat; a free cuppa and biscuits; support and information if needed. Our friendly team of volunteers who manage the library for Rugeley Rotary Club in partnership with Staffordshire County Council are looking forward to meeting you.

A PLACE OF WELCOME FOR CHESLYN HAY

The Cheslyn Hay Community Managed Library is now offering an extra special welcome to all visitors including free refreshments, friendly volunteers and lively chat every Thursday between 10am and 12 noon.  The Library, which is run by the Bloxwich Rotary Library Service, has recently joined the national Places of Welcome network which is made up of small community organisations providing an unconditional welcome and hospitality to local people for at least a few hours each week. This is the second Library in Cannock Chase which is officially a Place of Welcome!
