The Chief's Blog - July 2020

I find myself in a pensive mood this week and full of conflicting emotions. On the one hand I'm feeling proud and uncharacteristically, almost patriotic. I've been catching up on reporting and trying to get those sorts of things back to normal. Those reports evidence numerically that we've had an extraordinary time.

Support Staffordshire Volunteer Star Awards 2020 rescheduled

As most of you will be aware due to Covid-19 the countywide Support Staffordshire Volunteer Star Awards which were due to be held in June 2020 have been postponed.  They will now take place June 2021 and all dates have been rescheduled with the venues.  HUGE THANK YOU to all our sponsors who are continuing to support the events next year, we couldn't do any of this without you!  All nominations submitted for the 2020 awards will be carried forward and the new closing date for nominations will be 30th March 2021.

Do you have experience of using health and social care services during the coronavirus pandemic?

Healthwatch Stoke-on-Trent and Healthwatch Staffordshire, the local independent champions for health and social care have worked with Together We’re Better including Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council on a collaborative piece of work to devise a coronavirus impact survey, which asks members of the public about their experiences of health and social care services during the coronavirus pandemic. The survey largely focuses on coronavirus experiences, long-term health conditions, mental health and digital engagements.

Face masks and coverings have been in the news again this week, with more evidence emerging about their effectiveness in helping to stop the spread of the virus. In the UK, around 23% of the public use face coverings when out and about, which is far lower than other countries. Even in the USA, where there is divided opinion regarding face masks, the number of people wearing them is at about 63%.

NHS Diabetes Advice Helpline

NHS England and NHS Improvement have launched a new helpline in response to disruption to normal diabetes services due to the COVID-19 pandemic and response.

The service is for adults living with diabetes who use insulin to manage their condition and require immediate clinical advice.

Whether you or a member of your household have caught the virus, or routine care has been disrupted, the helpline is available for immediate clinical advice to help you understand how to effectively manage their diabetes.

COVID-19 and Weight Management Survey

The Obesity and Healthy Weight Team in the Diet Obesity and Physical Activity division in Public Health England are looking at people’s experiences with weight management services during the Covid-19 incident.

They are collaborating with Leeds Beckett University, University College London and Leeds University to explore the effects of Covid-19 on young people and adult tier 2 and 3 weight management services (WMS) across England. The survey will take about 18 minutes to complete. Choose the survey for your target group:
