Coronavirus has had a significant impact on the people of Staffordshire and has affected everyone, from health and wellbeing, education, jobs and the wider economy.

You can now have your say in what you think the future priorities should be in Staffordshire for COVID-19 as life begins to go back to normal, in the Staffordshire COVID-19 residents survey.

It will only take ten minutes to complete and your valuable input will help to prioritise the next part of recovery.

The Impact of Coronavirus on Bereavement

As lockdown starts to come to an end, members of the South Staffordshire End of Life Care Alliance reflect on the impact of the coronavirus on the community.

The current focus for the alliance, which brings together voluntary sector organisations from across the county, is bereavement and members have supported the community in different ways throughout. 

Gayle Routledge, CEO of A Child of Mine, which currently supports more than 60 families across Staffordshire following the death of a child of any age, said lockdown had been a really challenging time for families.

Did you know Community Centres, Village Halls, Scout Groups and Charities are eligible to apply for the Government Small Business Grant?

Closing date: 21 August 2020


Applications are still being taken for the Government Small Business Grant, so far we have distributed over £26m. There are however organisations who have not provided us with their bank details and we have been unable to issue payment.  An online form is available here to apply. They will be asked to upload proof of bank details if not currently paying rates by direct debit.

Units available to local charities at the Octagon Shopping Centre in Burton

For some time now, The Octagon Shopping Centre in Burton upon Trent, has been working with local charitable organisations to provide storage space and, if required, shop units for charities, utilising void units within their centre.

The units they provide are available to registered charities free of rent and service charge. In many cases they may also cover the cost of the utilities too.  All they ask is that charities utilising the space take on the rates liability which is current zero until March 2021.

Re-opening Your Library Safey During Covid-19

It has been a brilliant start to our phased re-opening of Staffordshire’s libraries, so many of you have told us how happy you are to be able to use their library again, albeit in a different way to what we are used to.

We’re really pleased that during July we re-opened all of our County Council managed libraries and we have supported some of our Community Managed Libraries to open as well and expect others to be opening in coming weeks. We have also re-instated limited access to computers and photocopying and we continue to evolve our service as we recover from lockdown.

Together We're Better Stakeholder Update: 3 August 2020

This week it has been announced that two new coronavirus tests will be rolled out to hospitals, care homes and labs from next week. The new tests can detect the virus in just 90 minutes. It is hoped that the fast results will help to stop the spread of the virus, whilst also increasing testing capacity ahead of winter.

A huge, co-ordinated effort across community and voluntary groups across our county is making a huge difference to isolated and vulnerable people, and those in most need of help. Local people are also stepping up to put projects together make a difference.

Now the new COVID-19 Support Fund has been set up to help keep this happening. It’s rapid, flexible funding to support communities to do their bit and to make sure that the voluntary sector continues to thrive now and after the crisis.

Magic Little Grants

The Magic Little Grants Fund is funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Localgiving and Postcode Community Trust are working together again in 2020 to provide small grants to small local charities and community groups in England, Scotland and Wales to help them deliver engaging physical activities, which help to overcome barriers to participation.
