Countryside Stewardship rolls into Churnet Valley

Woodland owners in the Churnet Valley are putting government grant funding for woodland management to good use, with farms in the area among those signing up to the scheme. The new funding package, called the Countryside Stewardship scheme, will offer land managers grant funding to help carry out woodland management which improves the woodland for wildlife. Conservation project, the Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership (CVLLP) is giving free help and advice to woodland owners interested in the scheme.

the leek work club allotment project

The Leek Work Club has set up an allotment project to give anyone who attends the club the chance to grow their own food. Rob Arnold, Employment Officer at Support Staffordshire said “The project provides a valued green space in Leek for unemployed people who attend Leek Work Club. They can come together to grow healthy, wholesome food. In doing so, it raises awareness of healthy eating while providing the opportunity for improving physical and mental well-being through gentle exercise in the open air.”

Police and Crime Commissioner’s People Power Funding

Great ideas for community safety solutions come from local people – which is why Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis is inviting groups in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to bid for money from his People Power Fund.

As part of his commitment to local communities, the Commissioner is providing £500,000 in 2015/16 through the fund in the form of grants of between £100 and £3,000.

Mental Health Engagement Public Launch Events (9th and 17th September)

Signpost Centre, Highfields – Five Years of Funding, Five Years of Hope!

 The Signpost Centre has recently received news that it has secured a £370,000 grant from the National Lottery's Reaching Communities Fund to provide support to Stafford residents dealing with employment, debt, mental health, family and older person issues, over the next five years. Staff can continue to be employed, volunteers managed and clients served in the community cafe on Highfields.  The new project will start in September 2015 and will concentrate on achieving the following outcomes in four main areas:
