Staffordshire Moorlands Council Congratulates Local Businesses on Number of Disabled Employees

Staffordshire Moorlands has been recognised by the Office for National Statistics for its exceptionally high rates of employment of people with a disability – which rank the Authority in the top 3% of districts in the Country. Over 75% of people age 16 to 64 with a disability or health condition are in employment – compared to less than 48% nationally.

New Scheme Launched: FareShare FoodCloud

FareShare FoodCloud is a new scheme which helps charities and community groups access the unsold, surplus food at the end of each day from their local Tesco supermarket – for free! Using a simple mobile technology the project has already helped 750 charities across the UK access 300 000 meals worth of free food.

They are currently working with a number of stores in Staffordshire, so are looking to connect with local charities and not-for-profit organisations that provide food for vulnerable or disadvantaged people in the region.

Free Taster Sessions in Tamworth

Reading Well for Young People: Shelf Help

Reading Well for young people is a national scheme launched in public libraries on 12 April, which will provide 13-18 year-olds with high-quality information, support and advice on a wide-range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and self-harm, and difficult life pressures, like bullying and exams.

Neighbourly and Marks & Spencer Seek to Donate Surplus Food to Local Charities

Neighbourly are working with Marks & Spencer to coordinate donations of their surplus food to local charities. They are currently looking for someone that Lichfield M&S can team up with. Collections would need to be made from store at least once per week, and the store is located at WS13 6NF.

Reach with Asist Advocacy Service

Asist advocacy service has recently been awarded the self-advocacy contract for Staffordshire, which will be delivered through our Reach project.  Reach was set up in 2000 to support adults with learning disabilities to speak up for themselves and others.  The new self-advocacy contract has been extended to include adults and young people from age 14 with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions and young people between the ages of 14 -24 with special educational needs and disabilities.
