Staffordshire Youth Awards Nominations

Sporting Communities believes in celebrating the achievements of young people and our Youth Awards aim to highlight the amazing things that young people do, the life barriers that they overcome and the aid that they provide to others.

We are delighted that this year we will be hosting Youth Awards in both Derby City and Staffordshire. We would also like to give a special thank you to the National Community Lottery Fund and all of our other Award sponsors for their support of this celebration of inspirational young people.

The quiet NHS reorganisation

Back in 2010, there was much fanfare as the then new coalition government began to dismantle and reorganise the NHS, from the top down (it didn’t really follow any calls from the grassroots) – exactly the thing they had promised during the election, not to do. Fast forward 11 years and a major reorganisation of the NHS is well underway once again, not that you would know this from the absence of discussion in the public eye.

The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that we have had to look at different ways of offering services to adults with a learning disability.

Replacement care services had previously been reviewed in 2019, but with the coronavirus pandemic affecting how many people can access building-based services at any one time, the county council has explored other options to ensure services can be offered in different ways.  Now, we want to look again at these services to understand how they can embrace the changes that have been made, and make sure the services are fit for the future.

Mental Health Sustainability Fund

This fund will be used to provide grants of up to £5,000 to support the sustainability of mental health voluntary, community and social enterprise provider organisations, with a turnover of £0-250k.

Chair announced for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent NHS Integrated Care Board

A key leader has today been announced for the new organisation that would lead to closer co-operation and integration of services across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

Prem Singh has become ‘Chair designate’ of the NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) in anticipation of it becoming formally established in April 2022.

Prem was appointed as Independent Chair of Together We’re Better, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’s Integrated Care System (ICS) in November 2020. He has a background in nursing and has served at board level in the NHS for over 30 years.

Ashley and Loggerheads to lose its village hall unless new volunteers step in!

Ashley Memorial Hall faces being closed unless new volunteers come forward to join the management committee and get involved in the day to day running of the hall

The five remaining members of the Village Hall management committee announced they would be standing down at the Annual General meeting at the end of the year.
