Invitation to Join Live & Local Network: Promoting the Arts
Mon 18 Apr 2016
Announcement from Live & Local:-
Have you ever thought how great it would be to see top class professional performers or new or classic films in your own village hall or community centre? There’d be no need to get the car out of the garage, it raises awareness of your fantastic venue and you’d be able to catch up with all your friends and neighbours too.
The Live & Local scheme helps local voluntary groups to do just that. There are now over 80 participating venues across Derbyshire and Staffordshire and the network of venues, as well as audiences, is growing. One volunteer promoter said,
“Being able to put on such fantastic quality live acts at our lovely village hall is a real pleasure”
“People are saying how good this has been for the village, bringing people together and offering great quality local entertainment. It’s always a delight to see an event go so well.”
Last year saw over 4,000 people attend 61 performances at 41 venues across Staffordshire alone, from small arts centres and village halls to churches, colleges and social centres. Together they enjoyed 45 different shows and films from performing companies with regional, national and international profiles, including actors, musicians of all genres, comedians, dancers, storytellers, and circus performers, all specialising in different styles. The professional performances are of the same high quality you’ll find in any traditional arts venue but you’re guaranteed a seat close to the action. You’ll often have the chance to meet the performers and see ‘behind the scenes’.
Last year we also launched a film scheme The Big Picture Show, specifically in Staffordshire so that communities can programme new releases, Hollywood blockbusters, family favourites or screen classics in their local venue. We provide state of the art technical equipment, the rights to show the films and friendly professional support, you just provide the audience!
Any enthusiastic community group can become part of the Live & Local network. All you need is a local hall or space, a small team of volunteers and plenty of enthusiasm. Shows are available for big or small spaces that are definitely NOT ‘theatres’, and you don’t need a stage or any special equipment.
The Live & Local team are only a phone call away and give practical help by providing over printed posters, leaflets and tickets, along with friendly advice about which shows would be suitable for your venue, plus how to run your event and attract your local audience.
The cost of the shows is subsidised using funding from your own local authorities including Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, East Staffordshire District Council, South Staffordshire District Council, Staffordshire County Council, NW Hub and Arts Council England. This makes putting on a show virtually risk free financially.
So, if you live in a rural area in Staffordshire, are part of a voluntary group and have access to a venue and would like to know more about being a Live & Local promoter please contact the local Fieldworker at email@example.com or via 07971 354610 (Mon, Tues and Fridays) or contact the Live & Local head office at Warwick on 01926 402173 or via firstname.lastname@example.org
