Volunteer Star Awards 2019

During June Support Staffordshire has been holding its Volunteer Star Awards celebrating and recognising the valuable contribution volunteers make every day in communities across Staffordshire.  So far events have been held in Cannock Chase, Stafford & District, East Staffordshire and Staffordshire Moorlands with South Staffordshire holding their event next week and Lichfield & District in July.

We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the local businesses and organisations who sponsored the events – we couldn’t have done it without you.

June means Volunteers Week and we have been celebrating!

I am delighted to have been present at two of our six Volunteer Star Awards this year, which have been rolled out from a firm foundation in the east of the county. These awards have been delivered through the hard work of our local teams, supported by our countywide staff, and made possible through the generous sponsorship of local businesses and organisations. May I offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has been involved in making them happen; and there are still two to come!

Staffordshire Digital Innovation Partnerships

Staffordshire Digital Innovation Partnerships Programme (SDIPs) has been launched by Staffordshire University to enable local SMEs to develop and adopt new digital innovative technology that has the potential to transform their business.

The project is offering 36 fully-funded, 6 month Partnerships including Academic expertise and a full time student/graduate placement to drive digital innovation forward.

Calling all digital entrepreneurs

£10,000 fully funded grants available to Staffordshire SME’s looking to develop new digital products and solutions to social challenges across the region.

As part of the Staffordshire Digital Innovation Partnerships project, Staffordshire University are looking for local digital entrepreneurs to develop prototype solutions to a series of social challenges identified by Staffordshire County Council.

Winners of the 2019 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service announced

Queens Award

A total of 281 organisations from across the UK have received the prestigious award this year including 6 in Staffordshire. It is granted to exceptional volunteer groups across the UK who are making a positive impact on the lives of others.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK to recognise exceptional service within their communities.

Words of Welcome at Lichfield Library

The newly relocated Lichfield Library at the Guild of St Mary's Centre in the Market Square is now offering an extra special welcome to all visitors including free refreshments, friendly volunteers and lively chat every Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm.  The Library has recently joined the national Places of Welcome network which is made up of small community organisations providing an unconditional welcome and hospitality to local people for at least a few hours each week.  The Library launched the new service on Tuesday 11th June and was pleased to meet and greet visitors young and old.

Bursary scheme in memory of Burntwood fundraiser Stephen Sutton open for applications

A scheme set up in memory of a Burntwood fundraiser to support young people in the town is open for applications.

The 2019 Stephen Sutton Bursary Award is handed out by Burntwood Town Council.

It is aimed at talented young people who live within the boundaries of the town and is split into two age bands – 11-14 years and 15-19 years. Up to £1,000 is available in each age category.
