Charities, groups and not-for-profit organisations that work to help the people of Lichfield District are being invited to apply for funding.
Lichfield District Council has £163,000 available each year, over the next three years, to award to community and voluntary sector organisations that can deliver projects to make a difference.
From supporting older people to live in their homes to working to look after the local environment, the grants will help communities across Lichfield District.

With over a decade of support from knitters up and down the country, The Big Knit has raised vital funds to support local and national winter projects to help older people keep warm and well in winter through befriending visits, emergency cold weather support, warm meals and other vital services.

Stafford MP Theo Clarke visited Hearts & Hands to meet the volunteers who set up the community group in October 2020. The locals saw a need in the area for those furloughed or self employed who needed a bit of short term help by offering free food boxes to those financially affected by COVID 19.

The #NeverMoreNeeded campaign has issued an open letter to the Prime Minister, calling for the creation of an Emergency Support Fund for communities and causes.
The letter comes as charities respond to growing need for their services while wrestling with an estimated £10bn funding gap caused by the pandemic. Many organisations are already spending their reserves, making redundancies and having to scale back or even close services.

Volunteering as a Befriender.
As an Employability Officer and a Volunteer Co-Ordinator, I have seen the benefits people achieve through volunteering.The hours may vary from a couple of hours a week, to a greater commitment of two to three full days, the roles too, vary greatly, from working outdoors on land projects, to supporting a mental health telephone support line.
But it wasn’t until I myself volunteered that I truly appreciated the benefits of volunteering.

This role will involve support with the helpline, incoming calls and proactively contacting victims by telephone to offer emotional support to help empower them to overcome the emotional, psychological and practical effects of domestic abuse. You will aim to identify individual support needs and complete needs and risk assessments. You will be helping people explore how their experience of domestic abuse has affected their lives and identifying ways to enable them to recover from the experience and promoting the rights of people you support and respecting diversity.
