Ashbourne Community Transport - WE NEED NEW TRUSTEES – CAN YOU HELP?

Tue 7 Jul 2020

Ashbourne Community Transport (ACT) is a charity traditionally providing transport services for those unable to use or access normal public transport because of disability, age-related mobility issues or because, increasingly, no such services exist, such e.g. across Derbyshire and Staffordshire’s many rural areas.

We currently provide services in High Peak, Derbyshire Dales, Staffordshire Moorlands, South Derbyshire, East Staffordshire and parts of Amber Valley.

ACT is run by a Board of Trustees, all volunteers, who take responsibility for its strategic direction, ensuring that it continues to meet its charitable objectives (and that these remain fit for purpose); and for providing an oversight of its financial performance.

You can find out more here.

The Future

ACT has continued to operate throughout the Corona Virus emergency, supporting Derbyshire and Staffordshire County Councils - ensuring that key workers could travel safely and their children access schools; that those self-isolating (especially those living alone) were able to maintain independent living; and that no-one was left without access to food shopping, prescriptions or essential services.

As a result of the pandemic, we recognised that the need for safe, local transport services is changing, with the demand for community-based services becoming greater, especially in rural areas.

To take us forward, we are hoping to appoint new Trustees from across all our areas of operation, and especially from those already active in their communities, who understand local needs, and can help design and shape these services for the post-Corona virus future.

ACT operates from an HQ in Ashbourne but has centres in Glossop, Buxton, Warslow, Swadlincote and Burton, and we would welcome wider representation from across all our areas of operation
