FREE websites for voluntary and community groups

The JCB Academy opened its doors in September 2010 as the first of a brand new kind of school in the UK, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering and business education. It prides itself on a unique curriculum and learning, allowing students to combine theory with practical activities which encourages a structured and effective use of time, meaning that there should be no homework, or very little at least.

Comic Relief Local Communities Programme

There are still many communities in the UK that suffer from economic and social deprivation and the current economic climate may make this situation worse. This programme aims to empower local people enabling them to create lasting change in their communities.  Projects  should be run  by people directly affected by the issues they are dealing with and priority will be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community.

Snapshot Skills Survey

Please take time to complete this short 10 question survey designed to establish strengths and skills gaps in the West Midland museums’ workforce.  This is your opportunity to influence the training provided by West Midlands Museum Development (WMMD) in the future.

Surviving Together

It continues to be a very tough time for many voluntary organisations with ever rising demand and shrinking resources. I also expect that for many, the repeated calls for groups to be more innovative, to think differently or to work smarter feels like a kick in the teeth when you are desperately trying to survive and to save your services from closure.

New Government Work and Health Programme

If you support people in ways that enhance their employability, you may already have been approached by companies who are planning to bid for the Government's new Work and Health Programme. However, all those wishing to deliver had to submit an Umbrella Agreement Response to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) by 9th November. DWP will then decide on the 6 providers who will be invited to tender for each of the geographic areas.

European Funding Update

As highlighted in the last bulletin, the Government is continuing to process and contract on European funding applications that are in the system, including the stage 2 applications under Building Better Opportunities (BBO). New calls for applications for unallocated funds are likely to be made in the New Year although there will be greater clarity after the publication of the Autumn Statement. Future projects will need to align with national strategic priorities.
