Vacancy for Independent Co-opted Member of Staffordshire Police and Crime Panel

Would you like the opportunity to have an input into decisions about the delivery of policing services in Staffordshire?

The Staffordshire Police and Crime Panel are looking for a member of the public to serve as a Lay Co-opted member of the Panel.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire’s primary role is to maintain, and secure the efficiency and effectiveness of, a police force for Staffordshire, holding the Chief Constable to account for the exercise of her duties.

Healthwatch Staffordshire, Staffordshire County Council & CCGs - engagement programme for Mental Health Strategy

Healthwatch Staffordshire is working with Staffordshire County Council and Clinical Commissioning Groups on a public and professional engagement programme evaluating the Mental Health Strategy "Mental Health is Everybody's Business" which sets out a new approach for mental health across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. The strategy aims to help people stay in control, access high quality services when needed, and receive care that is focused on recovery and independence.

Staffordshire County Council have announced a series of events in Staffordshire, which are designed to support carers.

This session will allow those with caring responsibilities the opportunity to hear about the upcoming changes to the benefit system. This opportunity is to offer help and support regarding benefit entitlement for carers.

Staffordshire County Council offer funded energy audits for community buildings

Staffordshire County Council are able to offer a small number of funded energy audits for community buildings in Staffordshire during the current financial year.

The buildings should be used for a not for profit purpose; in the past they have provided audits for charity drop-in centres, girl guide/scout huts, and community centres.  Eligible buildings will be selected on a first come, first served basis, to be audited around the end of September.

The Dove service announce training sessions

The Dove Service has announced the following training sessions available for carers:-

Coping with Change - 26 August, 1-3pm at Unit 22 at The Dudson Centre, Hope St, Hanley

This course helps carers look at potential changes they may face when caring for someone. It will explore change; reflecting on how we cope with change, considering what potential changes we face and how they may impact on our caring role.

Community Fire Safety Days

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are holding Community safety events across the borough on Thursday 1st October. Free stands are available to any voluntary or community group.

The events will take place at Gnosall Grosvenor Centre; Stafford Northfield Centre; Rising Brook Methodist Church; Eccleshall Co-op; and Stone Somerfield Court.

Stafford Work Clubs

Support Staffordshire is planning to bring together the organisers of the various work clubs around Stafford borough to exchange information and best practice, also to identify any gaps in provision and look at extending its volunteering offer to the more rural towns. If you are involved in any work clubs in the borough, and would like to be involved, please contact Jill Norman on jillnorman@smcvs.co.uk


New funding is now available from The England Illegal Money Lending Team, to be used to benefit local communities.

For the year 2015-2016, organisations will be able to apply for up to £5,000 to directly target an area affected by, or believed to be at risk of, illegal money lending. This is to promote the England Illegal Money Lending Team and the message that loan sharks should be avoided at all costs.

Submitted project ideas will need to target illegal money lending. The deadline for submission is 31st March 2016.
