Challenging and Appealing Benefit Decisions - Tribunals - bite size

What can you do if you disagree with a benefit decision?  This course looks at the options for claimants and their advisers faced with a decision they wish to change or challenge focussing on the Tribunal stage.

This is a session for more experienced advisers who are assisting service users to claim ESA and to appeal ESA decisions.  This session will also look at recent Upper Tribunal decisions and how these can be used when completing Mandatory Reconsideration and Appeal paperwork.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) was introduced in October 2008 to replace Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance and Income Support for people who are unable to work due to ill-health or disability.  This session will examine the ESA assessment criteria and who should be exempt from assessment.

Housing Benefit

This course will look at who is entitled to Housing Benefit and the impact of welfare reforms on HB entitlements including deductions for spare rooms (Bedroom Tax), the Local Housing Allowance and the Benefit Cap. The course is suitable for advisers who are working with Housing Benefit claimants and for those who need to know more about the impact of cuts to Housing Benefit.

Looking forward to later life means both planning for this phase of life and thinking about it positively. Our volunteers have helped us to design this training day to make sure that it includes the things that will help the most when planning and preparing for later life.
