Volunteers Walk Leader Training

Stafford Borough Council, which delivers a range of weekly health walks as part of its WalkWise programme, needs volunteers to help lead them and is organising a training event for those interested next month.  Once qualified you can assist with walks that are already taking place or you can set up a new walk within your local community with support from myself.

Weekly walks currently take place in Great Haywood, Little Haywood, Stone, Victoria Park, Hixon, Gnosall, Holmcroft, Milford, Derrington and Castlefields.

Inclusion and Mental Health Partnership Event

Please find attached information about an exciting inclusion and mental health partnership event on the 6th of June 2017 10-2pm at the Roman Way Hotel, Watling Street, Hatherton, Cannock, West Midlands, WS11 1SH,  with lunch provided.

The event is very inclusive and will be beneficial to anyone with an interest in Mental Health Services for adults in South Staffordshire. You may: have had personal experience, be a carer, be a patient representative, work in Mental Health Services, be part of a Partner Organisation or work in the Voluntary and Community Sector.

Volunteering Event at Stone Community Hub

Charities and community groups in and around Stone who are looking for new volunteers have been urged to attend a special event in the town.

Stone Community Hub is hosting the event on Thursday 1st June, the first day of this year’s national Volunteers’ Week.

Not-for-profit groups can showcase their organisation and promote volunteer vacancies. Members of the public who are interested in giving something back to their community will be able to find out more about the volunteering opportunities that are available in Stone and surrounding villages.

Lifeworks Staffordshire is a registered charity for people aged 14+ who are livingg with a high functioning Autistic Spectrum Condition, Asperger Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity , Dispraxia, Tourettes Syndrome, Social Anxiety and other associated specific learning difficulties. Our clients are often very intelligent and keen to please but can often struggle to interpret social situations and become very isolated.

Age Well Community Connector

Supporting people to maintain good health, mental wellbeing, and their independence as they get older is a priority for the Stafford and Surrounds’ Health and Wellbeing Group. The last Census (2011) recorded 7100 older people living alone in Stafford, and significant growth is expected in older people, equating to 5,600 additional residents aged 85 and over by 2024.

Health and Care Forum

Support Staffordshire is holding a Health and Care Forum in Stafford on the afternoon of 26 April 2017. All managers of voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations from across Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent are invited to this meeting to provide a platform for informing, consulting and networking with voluntary sector colleagues around the health and care arena

Stop Loan Sharks Intervention, Support, Education

The Health and Wellbeing Team are linking up with the Illegal Money Lending team to help raise awareness of the dangers of becoming involved with Loan Sharks by hosting an awareness raising workshop. 

This workshop is suitable to all frontline staff that has dealings with vulnerable members of the community e.g.  Housing Options, Housing Standards, Benefits, Community Safety and Councillors Etc.  The workshops will also be open to volunteers and employees from Community/Voluntary Organisations/Groups.

Investing in Volunteers achievers

Congratulations to The Donna Louise Hospice and Disability Solutions West Midlands on achieving the Investing in Volunteers award.  The UK quality standard assesses volunteer management against best practice to improve the quality of work with volunteers and enhances an organisation's reputation.  Esther Bromley, Locality Team Leader at Support Staffordshire and Investing in Volunteer advisor for Staffordshire and surrounding counties, was delighted to work with both organisations in the first stages of this process and felt that the award was well deserved.

A one day course for Volunteer Managers or Co-ordinators covering:

  • Developing a volunteering programme
  • Recruitment & selection
  • Support & supervision
  • Retention of volunteers

This is an ideal course for busy Volunteer Co-ordinators who wish to gain knowledge of best practice and how to apply it. The day will also provide opportunities to network and share information

Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. Lunch is NOT provided.
