Comment from the Chief Executive

In an exclusive interview this week, Third Sector magazine spoke to the former Minister for Civil Society of three years, Rob Wilson, who lost his seat at the general election in June. It was a fascinating, but regrettably patronising piece, which I tweeted, so I thought I’d better explore why I concluded so and how I think this epitomises the current (regrettable) attitude of central government to our sector.

Cardiology Service Patient Experience Survey

Cardiology Services are provided primarily in a secondary care setting or in the community. 

The Clinical Commissioning Groups* (CCGs) would like to gather the views of service users to understand the expectations from existing services and to find out what is important to you when accessing ophthalmology services.  

They are particularly targeting service users and their family / carers, with experience in this area of service provision. 

Volunteers required - Staffordshire Museum

Staffordshire Museum Needs you

They are looking for enthusiastic people to to help develop a new 'Childhood Exhibition'.

Help is required in creating  an exciting and fun exhibition for museums across Staffordshire.

You can learn about the museum and the fantastic objects in their collection and have the chance to work with museum staff and a professional designer.

You would get together at shugborough Estate and visit museums in Staffordshire and beyond.

EnviroGrant - next round of funding open

The EnviroGrant Scheme has been set up by Veolia in partnership with Staffordshire County Council to help local people improve their environment or community, with grants of up to £1000

Would your group benefit from financial support in order to continue the good work you do in your community?

Level 2 - Emergency First Aid at Work

Training for SCVYS and Support Staffordshire members only. There are 12 spaces on this course, limited to two candidates per organisation.

Please note that even though the course is free to members of SCVYS and Support Staffordshire, if you reserve a place and then fail to attend on the day you will be charged the full cost of the course.

Employability support in Stafford and South Staffs

If you have beneficiaries in the Stafford or South Staffs districts who you think would benefit from advice and support to help them towards employment, then the Building Better Opportunities programme managed by Business Enterprise Support as part of Team Staffordshire, may be the best option. This programme is funded by The Big Lottery and European Social Fund and focuses on helping those with a journey to make to reach a job. The 16 delivery partners of this BBO team, from the voluntary and public sectors, offer a wide range of help focused on the individual’s needs.

Update on New Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and missing children service

The child sexual exploitation (CSE) and missing children service in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire will be run by national organisation, Catch22, from 1st September 2017. This will replace a number of current services provided by Staffordshire Police, Brighter Futures and Families First.

The new service will tackle CSE through a range of early work and targeted support with families and carry out return home interviews for all missing children.
