Involving volunteers takes time and planning but doing this effectively will ensure that you meet the needs of your organisation as well as providing the volunteer with a good experience.  This workshop is designed to help you improve your programme, attracting volunteers as well as retaining them.  It will cover:

  • Volunteer policies
  • Writing effective role descriptions
  • Recruitment
  • Support and supervision
  • Retention of volunteers

 

Charity secures funding to expand Countywide

Age UK South Staffordshire has been awarded £389,152 by the Big Lottery Fund to continue to run an innovative project across Staffordshire designed to bridge the generation gap by recruiting older volunteers to help out in primary schools.  The sustainability funding from the Reaching Community Fund will see the current Children Matter project expand over the next three years to cover the whole of Staffordshire, working in partnership with Age UK North Staffordshire and education training and resource providers, Entrust.

Perseverance of Rugeley optometrists may have saved mum’s sight

A Rugeley woman received treatment which may have stopped her going blind in one eye thanks to a pioneering eye care service running through Stafford and Cannock optometrists.

Mother-of-two Claire Meehan, aged 37, of Attlee Crescent in Rugeley, was diagnosed with acanthamoebic keratitis after optometrists at Colin Lee Opticians, in Market Street, Rugeley, raised the alarm.

Be clear on the signs of blood cancer

Local doctors are calling on residents to familiarise themselves with the symptoms of blood cancer to help improve rates of early diagnosis.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Monthand Cannock Chase Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), South East Staffordshire and Seisdon Peninsula CCG and Stafford and Surrounds CCGare joining with several national charities and other NHS organisations in raising awareness of the symptoms of blood cancer, in an attempt to improve early diagnosis rates and save lives.
