Support Staffordshire works to support Mental Health focussed groups, large and familiar as well as small and innovative. Some work directly with patients, others offer more holistic and lifestyle support, yet more act as advocates, others form networks of support and signpost to existing services.
As well as supporting these organisations in their day to day running, we often work with Mental Health organisations to improve awareness and understanding across the VCSE sector and in public bodies and the private sector. Mental Health is thankfully now recognised as a cross-cutting issue that everyone has a part to play in improving.

How we work with groups
Mental Health groups and organisations often face the challenge of supporting people now with their current needs, and improving services and general attitudes to mental ill-health for the future. We regularly work with them to improve the services of the NHS and community care that wraps around clinical provision. This includes presentations and updates at the VCSE Locality Forums.
It can be a real challenge to explain the impact of a service aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing – how do you show the difference you have made, by stopping something from happening? Our team can help you to monitor and assess the impact of your services and make this an everyday practice.
With increasing pressure on the NHS, many VCSE organisations are having to adapt their own funding and business models, we can help, from a simple funding search to more in-depth business planning and reviews.
Main partners and organisations
Key organisations locally include:
VCSE organisations should also familiarise themselves with the two main NHS providers in Staffordshire: North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare and South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
There are no dedicated Partnership Boards specifically for mental health. However the main, and in some cases local, Health and Wellbeing Boards will obviously be concerned with mental health issues. These Boards are attended by partners from social care, health and other public agencies. See our VCSE Locality Forums and representation page for full details of links to local boards.
Although there is no formal place for the VCSE sector at the Staffordshire Health and Wellbeing Board, our Chief Executive Garry Jones attends on a regular basis and is able to ask questions on behalf of the sector as part of the public session – you can contact Garry to discuss important issues directly by email or call 0300 777 1207.
You may also wish to be aware of the County Council Healthy Staffordshire Select Committee.
