Support Staffordshire has many member organisations who work to support and enable disabled people and people with learning disabilities and difficulties. Groups include those who support specific conditions or impairments.

As well as supporting these organisations in their day to day running, we frequently support them in liaising with public bodies, particularly in social care and the NHS.

Here are some of our members to give you an idea of the sorts of groups we supportTamworth Stroke Patients and Carers Group

How we work with groups

Disability groups usually run services aimed at social inclusion, including day centres, support groups, advice sessions and advocacy. We help them recruit and manage volunteers for all these activities.

The way that disability services are funded has changed a lot in recent years, so we can help groups with understanding new ways of funding from local authorities such as direct payments and the shift away from block grants. We can also help you access other sources of funding for specific projects.

Issues affecting disability groups are often linked to social care and the NHS; so we regularly link the two at our VCSE Locality Forums.

Main partners and organisations

VCSE organisations should also familiarise themselves with the Staffordshire Cares website.

Partnership Boards

There are no dedicated Partnership Boards specifically for disabilities. However, the main and in some cases local Health and Wellbeing Boards will obviously be concerned with disability issues. These Boards are attended by partners from social care, health and other public agencies. See our forums and representation page for full details of links to local boards.

Although there is no formal place for the VCSE sector at the Staffordshire Health and Wellbeing Board, our Chief Executive Garry Jones attends on a regular basis and is able to ask questions on behalf of the sector as part of the public session. You can contact Garry to discuss important issues directly by email or call 0300 777 1207.
