Who should attend:

This course is aimed at individuals or volunteers who work with children.

Overview:

This session will provide participants with an understanding of what to look for to safeguard children from harm, how to recognise abuse, respond effectively and refer appropriately and how social care responds including assessments together with child protection plans.

Topics Covered:

  • Be aware of different types of abuse

  • What legislation is relevant to children

  • Be aware of different types of abuse and who is more at risk

  • Be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of each category of abuse

  • How to respond during a disclosure of abuse

  • Understand your roles & Responsibilities

  • Referring and reporting procedures

  • What happens after a referral

Outcomes:

At the end of this course participants will:

  • Understand responsibilities around safeguarding as a manager or designated safeguarding officer or lead

  • Know how to effectively respond to disclosures or allegations of abuse and neglect

  • Have the confidence to effectively support staff and volunteers
