Getting Started with Legacy Fundraising
A legacy gift will often be the largest single donation a supporter will ever make. Legacies provide around £1.9 billion income for charities every year and the legacy market is experiencing strong growth. All charities no matter how large or small should consider how they can build a legacy income stream into their charity’s funding mix. Understanding why people make such gifts, and how to handle what is often a simultaneously sensitive and daunting topic, will help you tap into this source of funds and boost your charity’s income.
The trainer Dr Claire Routley has worked in fundraising for over fifteen years, specialising in legacy fundraising for the last decade. In 2011, she completed a PhD looking at why people choose to leave legacies to charity. She has worked for Bible Society, Age UK, WRVS and a local hospice, and is a tutor for the Institute of Fundraising’s qualification courses.
Claire is now a fundraising consultant, and a research fellow at Plymouth University’s Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy. She is also a member of fundraising think-tank Rogare’s international advisory panel, and was recently named AFP’s emerging scholar 2017.
Places are limited to 12 to maximise the interaction with the Trainer. This course is rare to find and not usually available outside London so we are expecting it to be popular. Early booking is advised
